Europe

For our Senior Trip in high school, our graduating class of six, raised enough money doing lots of fund-raisers to go on a country hopping trip in Europe. We had planned to go to Ireland and Greece but because of LOOOOOOONG layovers in Heathrow we were able to go sight seeing in London as well.

In Ireland we visited Dublin and were able to see all the famous doors as well as Trinity University. We also went to Blarney and “Kissed” the famous stone at the top of a castle (yeah I really did it, upside down and all!). Going a little further of the beaten path, we went on a Day trip by train – the best way to see the country side – to the city of Bray and visited the aquarium there in order to get out of the rain, but you can’t get away from water when your on and ISLAND. Before we left we went on a quick bus trip to Wicklow and visited Wicklow Geol (jail) and museum. After being chased around (literally) by a character actor we went on a historical tour which involved participation from the guests.

In route to Greece we stopped over in London and did as much tourist stuff as you possible could in a little under a day. We ate “bangers and mash”, seen Big Ben, Looked at the guards at the Palace, rode the underground metro ( mind the gap!) and took pictures near tower bridge to name a few things.

In Greece we went to … you guessed it ATHENS. We went to the Acropolis to see the Parthenon (and many other very notable ruins), we ate gyros (yee-ros o gee-ros, not ji-rows), shopped at the markets and even went on a day cruise to 3 islands of the coast(hydra was my favorite). The beauty of Greece and its people truly lived up to legend.
