Fans of Asian/Hong Kong cinemas and cross over Legends like Bruce Lee, Chow Yong Fat and Jackie Chan will have a great time hunting for their Stars on the Promenade. Along the way there are plaques showing the history of Hong Kong Cinema and well as film industry themed statues for great photo opportunities. A favorite spot is the statue of Bruce Lee and everyone from every background comes by and gets a photo with his larger than life legend (much like the Michael Jackson star in LA).
Don’t forget to take a few with Jackie Chan’s Peace Bears – colorful cute bear statues depicting “Love and Peace” and “Protect Our Earth” that promote world peace and a clean environment. They also have a few locations for live acts with well-known performers and they have a stage to showcase local- amateur talent as well. On a warm night its very nice to stroll and h
ear good music and eating ice cream. Day or night, rain or shine this is a must see when visiting Hong Kong. After finding all the hand prints grab a bench and enjoy the view of Victoria Harbor and passing ships and the world’s largest permanent light and sound show A Symphony of Lights. I personally think this is one of the best places in Hong Kong the walk at night is worth the trip.
Something else worth waking up early for is the sunrise over the skyline from the Avenue of stars. The sunrise back-lights the buildings and it gives the silhouette of jagged mountains that looks great for pictures. This is best on a clear day. I asked the receptionist at my hostel what the best time was to go out there for that and followed her suggestion. She was also able to tell me the day I picked was supposed to be a clear day (less air pollution) so it should make for better pictures as well. So I go to sleep a little early and make sure all my batteries are charged up and Power walk to get a good spot. I get there and it’s pretty bright outside I almost thought I slept too long and started shooting anyway hoping to make the best of the lighting I had. And a half an hour later the sun starts to show itself behind the skyline behind Hong Kong Island. I was near the viewing platform and Starbucks on the Promenade and it was the best spot to take t
he shots (the buildings are lower on that end). The nice orange-mango colors looked great in the sky and gave the steel buildings and organic look. I was also able to get a glimpse of the lives of the locals going to work, eating breakfast or jogging down the Avenue.
