Countdown to Year of the Dragon Parade

The sound of popping echoes throughout from the children tossing pops on the street. People snapping photos of Friendship Gate. The smell of the eateries that line the streets of 7th and H. Yeah this is Chinatown in full effect! Its much warmer then past years so I’m not getting frostbite as I write this on my WordPress Droid app. I hope we can keep this good spot and I can get some video and pics to share.  Hasta la bye bye for now all…

Last Minute Side Trip

I knew that this year the Lunar New year was going to come earlier then it has in the past. I knew that it was going to be then end of January. I had so many other things going on but I really didn’t want to miss going to Chinatown to get in on this year – the year of the Dragon.

Dragons are a major feature in every new year parade but this year they are likely to be even bigger and better. They are expecting a large turn out as well because of the popularity of Dragons and this year will be televised to a wider audience then normal.

My plan is to take the metro GreenLine down with my Mom, catch some lunch, watch the Parade  and  visit the gift shop and grab some more chopsticks
(its one of the things I collect). Also memo to me – DIM SUM!

I hope I can get a good spot for taking photos with my HTC Droid. Normally I would have a camera but not this year  but I will make it work!

Hope to see you all there… if not I will be posting tomorrow and adding to the Side Tripping page in the days following. Until then Hasta la Bye Bye! BNRR

Dollar Days Baltimore~ Side tripping

This weekend is the yearly Dollar Days event for Baltimore City.  Many of the popular attractions are open with admission for as low as low as $1. Today I’m going to the National Aquarium in Baltimore. For a few more dollars we are going to see the 4 D theater showing of polar express. It’s so worth it just for the smell of hot chocolate. If you are looking for something to do this weekend go down town and check out all that Charm City has to offer. This is great for people that have children and just find the funds for normal admission. The kids will enjoy it and parents won’t break the bank. Photos to come!

Side Tripping: MLK memorial in DC

My mom and I are on the greenline in route to see the Martin Luther King ,Jr memorial in Washington DC right now.  We decided to go a day before the official dedication that is set for tomorrow Oct 16 2011 ( the 16th anniversary of the Million Man March) in order to avoid the crowds. I wanted to actually see the memorial and not have a lot of people blocking my view.  That way we can enjoy the layout and take our time and relax and reflect on our roll in living out the American  Dream without all the stress crowds can bring. Lucky we live close by for that to be an option.  We might swing by the Smithsonian as well being in route of our walk back to L’ Enfant metro station. My only point of sadness is I left my pedometer at home.  I really wanted to know how many steps I would clock today. Oh well next time!  More posts to come as well as pictures… BNRR

Side Tripping in Steelers Country

This side trip I’m back in my hometown Tarentum in Allegheny Valley  Pa.  Now the best part of going back to where I spent many a childhood summer is seeing the family and catching up in real life and not just over social network.

On this trip we do plan on going to  three places that are unique to this area. We will visit Pittsburgh Mills Mall and Alexandria’s Tea Room and Angelic’s
Needful Things.

It should be a great trip and I will keep everyone posted. Have a great labor day holiday.

I’m sitting waiting on my last event that will take me to the end of Otakon 2011. I’ll be watching Case Closed: Captured in Her Eyes. Me and my mom love this series so I’m taking one for the team and I’m going to stick it out and watch it so I can tell her about it instead of going home for much needed sleep.  More rundown of the event to come I’m a few days as well as a more photos! Hai!
